Atkinson Print has taken another major step towards an all-digital workflow in recent months, with the installation of a HighWater blue-violet laser computer-to-plate (CtP) imaging system. This gives us a purely digital pre-press department.

The last ten years have seen massive changes in technology in the printing industry especially in the pre-press area where many digital solutions have replaced the more traditional methods of working, with CtP having had the most impact.

It has several advantages over the conventional processing of plates for our lithographic printing presses which will aid our efforts to improve the service we offer our customers.

Faster imaging, without the intermediate film stage, will help get your job to the press more quickly. Because the image is laid directly onto the plate with digital accuracy it will help us to reduce press preparation times, increasing print productivity and improved quality.

Our move to CtP has also given us the opportunity to update our multi-platform approach to handling work originated by our customers which we began in 2001.

We can now download more types of files directly to the CtP laser plate imager from both our Apple Macintosh and PC computers, reducing the problems of fonts and attributes changing during conversion.
